Ontario Staycation Tax Credit
/This new credit is a great way to recover some of the costs of your Ontario vacations. It provides up to $200 for individuals or $400 for families. It’s a one-time credit that’s only in effect for stays during 2022.
The credit is claimed as part of your 2022 tax return. You’ll receive a 20% credit for expenses of up to $1,000 for individuals and $2,000 for families.
Eligibility
Only one person per family can claim the credit on their 2022 tax return. You’re eligible if you’re an Ontario resident on December 31, 2022.
Eligible expenses include accommodation expenses for a leisure stay during 2022 of less than a month in Ontario, at a short-term accommodation (like hotels, motels, cottages and campgrounds). The expense must have been paid for by yourself, your spouse or your child. The accommodation provider must be registered for HST (as indicated on the receipt).
Some examples of ineligible expenses include travel expenses (car rentals, flights, etc.), the admission price to attractions, and any amounts that are reimbursed.
